Celebrity Scandals and Controversies

Celebrities are people we look up to and admire from a distance. We place them on a pedestal and assume they can do no wrong. But this myth is shattered each year as we see our favorite celebrities go bad and do things that make us blush or make us angry.

When they do go bad and make mistakes, the media is there to capture every detail, and perhaps even exaggerate some details (yes, our celebrity gossip magazines sometimes exaggerate the mishaps of our all powerful celebrities!).

Would there be a Britney Spears panty scandal if there were no paparazzi waiting at her car door to capture the moment? If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody’s around, does it make a sound?

Quite often they are human moments that we all do, and would be just as guilty of if we had a photographer watching our every move. But some moments are inexcusable and offensive no matter how you look at it.

Here’s our list of top ten scandals and blunders by celebrities for 2006

Top 10 Celebrity Scandals & Blunders

  1. Michael Richards for being racist. We all loved him as Kramer on Seinfeld, but what was Michael Richards thinking when he verbally attacked people in the crowd of a comedy club, using the word nigger several times!
  2. Britney Spears for flashing. With her career in a downward spiral, and her mothering skills being questioned, the pop princess has been photographed wearing no panties several times this year.
  3. O.J. Simpson for being vulgar. The man that may or may not have murdered his former wife and her lover was set to profit from a book called “If I did it”, which talked about what he would have done if he did commit the murder. This may have won the award for the most distasteful book ever published if it went to print!
  4. Tara Conner becomes miss wild USA. It was definitely a year of bad girls in 2006. Miss USA nearly lost her crown for behaving badly, but the New York real estate developer Donald Trump forgave her. Tara Conner says she will now be the best Miss USA ever!
  5. President George W. Bush for not listening to the people. Bush has been voted the greatest villain and the greatest saint for 2006 so he is both loved and hated. We think if he did more for the environment and world peace, he may be taken off some of the villain lists.
  6. Lindsay Lohan for her partying ways. After several much talked about faintings, falling down stairs, and hospital admissions, the actress has booked herself into Alcoholics Anonymous.
  7. Mel Gibson for falling off the wagon. A DUI charge and an alleged anti-Semitic tirade upset the powerful Jews in the entertainment industry who called for a boycott of the actor. All has now been forgiven with the release of his new movie “Apocalypto” which has been a hit.
  8. Nicole Richie goes wild and gets very thin. It was a wild year for the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie which included being arrested for DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol). She also reportedly weighs just 85 pounds.
  9. Keith Urban goes into rehab after marrying Nicole Kidman. Not long after the “wedding of the year” in Sydney, Australia, the country music star booked himself into rehab for alcohol abuse.
  10. Thomas Kinkade for “ritual territory marking”. His face may not be known to many, but his paintings or prints hang on the walls of millions of Americans. He dubs himself the “painter of light” and is into patriotism and Christianity, but stands accused of unchristian like behavior by owners of art galleries selling his work.
